We’ve been steadily growing and are looking for a DIGITAL DESIGN DIRECTOR to oversee the increasing number of projects with our top-tier clients across the world such as Warner Music Group, Google, Philips, Cisco to name a few. 


We have a talented, diverse team of multi-disciplinary, open-minded designers, passionate about what they do and eager to explore and learn more about the world around them.

As our DIGITAL DESIGN DIRECTOR you’ll manage and shape the creative process, forging the way forward in our endeavor to exceed current boundaries in design and technology.

You are instrumental in leading the team to create next level solutions; guiding our approach to complex challenges while inspiring great thinking, collaboration and encouraging experimentation and creative exploration under your leadership.

You play a pivotal role in the creation and direction of project concepts, translating our clients’ brand values and project briefs into innovative, engaging solutions; understanding the possibilities available within the constraints and clearly communicating your vision with the team to create a realistic end-product.

You’ll have a number of responsibilities within the studio such as;

  • Presiding over projects and the design team together with the UX design director and technical leads;
  • Unravelling complex briefs, devising solid strategies that drive our clients’, and our vision forward;
  • Crafting beautiful concept designs that deliver meaningful, relevant solutions that create impact, offer authentic experiences and new perspectives that resonate with our clients and users alike.
  • Ensuring the overarching concept is maintained from start to finish; mindful of the tiniest of details as well as the bigger picture, i.e. you know the adoption rate of an interactive tool is determined at a strategic level, yet understand this comes down to the correct placement of a single button.
  • Guiding the development of young designers in the creative process, inspiring, mentoring and setting an example they can aspire to.
  • Working and partnering with our clients to articulate their challenges, develop the solutions they need and nurture our long standing client relationships.
  • Upholding the excellence and quality of our results, and ensuring they’re distinct, have a clear narrative and tell compelling, visual stories.

  • A great feel for visual design and a sharp, analytical eye for quality;
  • A focus on digital solutions and a great understanding and intuition into user behavior;
  • Your passion and interest in design and technology;
  • Excellent knowledge of Adobe CC Suite and hands-on experience with Sketch;
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.


  • If you have worked in a SCRUM/Agile environment;
  • Have a strong affinity with data.


Our head office is located right in the city center of Utrecht, in the vibrant Voorstraat area.

We have an enthusiastic and ambitious team, counting 8 different nationalities from across the world, and to accommodate our diverse team, our working language is English.

We have an open office plan with sitting / standing desks, hot desks, a silent room and flexible work schedules. Every day, the team enjoys lunch together in our lunch area/event space and on occasion, a team evening in the city.

Our Chicago office is located in the iconic Merchandise Mart building. 


In addition to our studio, CLEVER°FRANKE initiated a non-profit foundation, Sensor Lab which is situated in our office in Utrecht.

Sensor Lab focuses on the exploration, creation and development of sensor and smart technologies. We provide an open lab, hosts and organizes meet-ups and workshops. With these activities we bring together the smart technology community in the Netherlands.
